Potential Spill on Bakken Dakota Access Pipeline Platform

Newly obtained drone footage from November 27 shows a possible spill of undetermined type on the Bakken Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) drill platform just above the Missouri River in Morton County, North Dakota.

A large amount of unknown liquid appears to have poured directly from the bottom of a blue, rectangular, liquid holding tank.

Drill pads have numerous toxic, caustic, and environmentally damaging chemicals as well as water. Chemicals on the drill pads are used to soften rock, lubricate parts, and maintain equipment.

The spill is located just feet above Oceti Sakowin Camp, the largest of the Standing Rock Water Protector camps. The spill is also feet above the Missouri River, the primary water source for the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation.

Kitchens of Isis - The New York Times Just Does Not Get Standing Rock

I am an embedded front line journalist at Standing Rock. During my eleven weeks on the ground I have been tear gassed and maced. I cannot tell you how many LRAD attacks I experienced. Smoke and concussion grenades have been used on me or near me. I have been soaked with water in sub-freezing temperatures. Police shot at me with rubber bullets and bean bags. My belongings were searched. My car has been impounded twice. I have been seriously injured. People have been hurt protecting me. DAPL security and police have chased me.

On the 15th I was nearly killed by police covering Standing Rock. The police opened fire into a car and attempted to shoot at it as it drove away. I was standing on the other side of the car filming and the car narrowly avoided splatifying me as they fled the hail of bullets. All after I was maced and chased in a sprint by unhinged officers for daring to cover the story.

Other press members have been attacked, arrested, strip searched and beaten. Some struggle with PTSD symptoms. Their data has been stolen by police and used in prosecutions. We have been targeted by police.

We do it with only the money people online give us.

When the New York Time’s article on the kitchens of Standing Rock, Squash, Rice and Roadkill: Feeding the Fighters of Standing Rock, came across my feed, I was flabbergasted and enraged. With all the resources at the New York times, the best NYT has to offer the public understanding is not about the near death experiences, police brutality, beatings, strip searches, U.N.’s investigation, surveillance, over charging, or press attacks – it is the kitchen.

NYT sent a reporter to a war zone and covered the mess halls. Gee – I cannot wait for NYT’s coverage of the kitchens of ISIS.

Ambulances and Free Speech - Understanding the Governor's Evacuation Order

North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple has issued a sweeping executive order to immediately evict people from the Anti-Dakota Access Pipeline Water Protector camp near the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation and deny basic emergency services like ambulances to the camp. The order also criminalizes supporting the camp or its residents. The eviction is labeled an evacuation and is justified as a safety measure to protect the camp’s residents from the harsh North Dakota winter.

Setting the State:

The largest Water Protector camp, Oceti Sakowin, is on contested land of which the Army Corps of Engineers and the Sioux both claim ownership. On November 25, the Army Corps of Engineers issued an order to close the camp and evict the residents on December 5, 2016. It requires residents to leave, and the property be closed to the public. They suggest moving the camp to a free speech zone less than a mile away in Cannon Ball, North Dakota. It was justified as an emergency evacuation order to protect residents of the camp from the North Dakota winter.

On November 27, the Army Corps of Engineers announced in a letter that they have no plans to use force to get Water Protectors out of Oceti Sakowin Camp stating, “The Army Corps of Engineers is seeking a peaceful and orderly transition to a safer location, and has no plans for forcible removal.”

In response to the Army Corps of Engineer’s follow up statement, Governor Dalrymple said, "When you put out a pronouncement that people must leave your land by a certain date, I think you take on a responsibility to somehow bring that about."

On November 28, Governor Dalrymple issued his executive order.

DAPL is Not Dead

Celebratory drumming and singing rang out from Standing Rock Water Protector camps when the Army Corps of Engineers denied Energy Transfer Partnership the easement to drill under the Missouri River just 2,400 feet from the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, stalling the Dakota Access Pipeline. Crying people exclaimed, “It’s over.” Joyful expression is warranted, it is a major triumph against the pipeline but the tearful heart-songs are wrong, the fight is not over.

The internet exploded in celebratory headlines, articles, and social media posts minutes after the pipeline announcement by Jo-Ellen Darcy, the Army's Assistant Secretary for Civil Works.

The New York Times chimed in with, “Army Blocks Drilling of Dakota Access Oil Pipeline.”

CNN’s Facebook page rejoiced, “BREAKING NEWS: A true victory for protestors, construction of Dakota Access Pipeline to be re-routed http://cnn.it/2gRaQGl

Bipartisanreport.com went even further, “BREAKING: Dakota Access Pipeline IS DEAD, U.S. Government Says NO WAY (DETAILS)”

The big problem is – it’s not even close to true.

A Pick-Sloan Winters: Using the Army Corps of Engineers's Duties to Stop the Pipeline

The Bakken Dakota Access Pipeline is slithering down the North Dakota hills, poised to stick its head directly under the Missouri River. Thousands of Water Protectors, people from all over the world, have gathered in and around the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation to stop its descent, and terminate the Black Snake. The Black Snake killer may come in the most unexpected forms, an obscure court ruling, legislation which ruined much of the ecology of the Standing Rock Reservation, and the agency responsible for enacting it - the Army Corps of Engineers.

The Missouri River ravaged Omaha, laying waste to the city with frightening efficiency in 1943. In response, Congress passed the Flood Control Act of 1944, commonly known now as Pick-Sloan. The Army Corps of Engineers and Board of Reclamation were assigned responsibility to enact Pick-Sloan and took control of the river.

Even for those living right on the Missouri River, the name Pick-Sloan is obscure but no legislation changed the nature of the Missouri more. By the time the entire Pick-Sloan plan was enacted, only 1/3 of the river was in a natural state.

After Omaha flooded, America was frantic to assure Omaha and selected other cities’ safety. The government took the opportunity to put a wider, more comprehensive plan covering other commercial and safety aspects of the river in place. Pick-Sloan assigned the Army Corps of Engineers and the Bureau of Reclamation the task of caring for eight categories related to the river: flood control, navigation, irrigation, power, water supply, recreation, fish and wildlife, and water quality.

The Army Corps of Engineers created a gaggle of hydroelectric dams, including Lake Oahe on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation.

Lake Oahe Reservoir and hydroelectric dam was created when the Army Corps of Engineers flooded the fertile river lands and displaced a village on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in 1960. A forest was deluged – lost to the water. Bison died. Burial grounds were submerged. Homes were lost. However, unlike other tribes who were also displaced under Pick-Sloan – the Standing Rock Sioux preserved their right to the Missouri River bed running through their reservation.

Just a few miles up the river from Lake Oahe Reservoir are the Water Protector camps. On a hill just above the largest of the Water Protector camps, Oceti Sakowin, the pipeline the pipeline is near completion. Energy Transfer Company, the owner of the Bakken Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL), is just waiting for a permit from the Army Corps of Engineers to drill under the river and place their pipeline under the river.

The Army Corps of Engineers’ requirements under Pick-Sloan may be the last weapon the Water Protectors have to stop the drill and the pipeline.

Man Pistol-Whips Woman and Opens Fire Near Standing Rock Water Protectors at Anti-Bakken Dakota Access Pipeline Prayer Action

The Bismark area countryside echoed with screams of horror on Saturday when a man pistol-whipped a woman from the window of his truck, then opened fire over the heads of Standing Rock Water Protectors praying near a Bakken Dakota Access Pipeline workspace.

A handful of Water Protectors approached the large white truck with a logo for Four Square Concrete LLC at a Bakken Dakota Access Pipeline workspace Saturday. The driver, a balding white middle-aged man in a red jacket and sunglasses, stepped out of his truck and brandished a pistol at the crowd before returning to his truck.

Photo: John Willis

He began to advance his truck towards the crowd in a threatening manner.

The people directly in front of the truck shored their footing in order to protect the people in the crowd behind them. People jumped on the running boards on both sides in order to slow his progress. A woman jumped on the driver’s side, gripping onto his door.

The yet unidentified man entered a frenzied state, screaming and shouting, his face textured with engorged veins. Then he pulled out his gun.

In terror filled voices, Water Protectors yelled, “Gun! He has a loaded gun!”

The Army Corps of Engineers Authorized Violence Against Standing Rock Water Protectors

The Standing Rock Water Protectors stood. They stood waste deep in North Dakota water less than half a normal human’s body temperature, downhill from riot police indiscriminately spraying them all with pepper spray, bear mace, tear gas, and rubber bullets. They stood in the face of racist comments. They stood in the path of an oil pipeline, in the way of monied interest, and the weight of a country. They stood to protect the water. They stood and waited for the police to run out of mace so they could pray. They stood in pain, shivering, and afraid. They stood and faced the violence – the violence ordered on them by the Army Corps of Engineers.

In the effort to watch Water Protectors, police rove by foot and car in the high hills overlooking the camps. Water Protectors informed police their surveillance track on federal Army Corps of Engineers land, just across Cantapeta Creek from the camps, was sacred burial grounds. Police’s response was to traipse on the bodies of the Standing Rock Sioux ancestors.

In the middle of the night, Water Protectors made a bridge from wood and moxie. On November 2, they laid the bridge across Cantapeta Creek toward their ancestors and tried to cross. If they could reach the other side, they could put their ancestors to rest, and perform a water ceremony.

United Nations Investigates Human Rights Violations by Law Enforcement Against Standing Rock Water Protectors

Standing Rock Water Protectors described human rights violations by law enforcement to United Nations representatives during interviews this week. Water Protectors described being kept in chain link cells resembling kennels, and strip searched. They also report being denied food, water, clothing, attorneys, phone calls, beds, bedding, and access to the restroom.

UN Chair for the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues Grand Chief Akile Ch'oh Edward John and UN Observer Roberto Borrero conducted the interviews.

On October 27 police raided a camp set up by the Standing Rock Water Protectors to protect sacred burial grounds and to stop the construction of the Bakken Dakota Access Pipeline. Police employed hundreds of officers, two armored vehicles, tear gas, pepper spray, concussive grenades, rubber bullets, tasers, bean bag guns, batons, and LRADs during the melee. Over 100 people were arrested.

According to interviews, after Water Protectors were arrested at the raid, they were given identification numbers. The identification numbers were written on their forearms in permanent marker.

When they arrived to Morton County Jail, they were stripped to one layer of clothing and left in cement floored chain link kennels without blankets for hours. At no point were they read their rights. They were denied a phone call even to their attorney.

Protectors were required to give DNA samples to police.

Children Targeted for Similar Threatening Attacks at Anti-Bakken Dakota Access Pipeline Actions in Iowa and Camp in North Dakota

Cannon Ball, N.D. and Lohrville, IA – Children participating in anti-Bakken Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) actions in Iowa and North Dakota were targets of similar disturbing attacks this week when men asked the price to buy the children.

Extreme Emergency Cell Phone Alert Issued For Anti-Bakken Dakota Access Pipeline Prayer Action

Public officials in North Dakota issued an extreme emergency cell phone alert in response to anti-Bakken Dakota Access Pipeline Water Protector non-violent direct actions.

The alert, which went out at approximately 11:30 am local time, read:

“Emergency alert
PROTEST ACTIVITY NEAR ST
ANTHONY AND TO THE SE
PLEASE AVOID OFFICERS ARE
ACTIVE IN AREA

Type: Extreme Alert”

The emergency alert was issued in response to three simultaneous actions performed by Water Protectors; neither action resulted in violence. Water Protectors are a Native American led group dedicated to stopping the pipeline construction.

Forty Police in Riot Gear Order Five Unarmed Praying Water Protectors to Stop Praying and Leave or Get Arrested

Five unarmed Native American anti-Bakken Dakota Access Pipeline protestors praying on the side of the road were given five minutes to stop praying and leave or face arrest by over 40 police officers from at least eight departments in three states. Officers had an armored vehicle, acoustic weapon, riot gear, automatic weapons, and batons.

Water Protectors, a group of Native Americans and their allies lead by the Standing Rock Sioux working to defeat the Bakken Dakota Access Pipeline, sat down on the shoulder of a public road to pray after the voluntary end of a larger protest.

The prayer lasted approximately 10 minutes. As they prayed the police continued to garner more forces. Police forces started at about 30 officers with no armored vehicles and swelled up to 40 officers with an armored vehicle.

Accusation of Missing Livestock Made Against Standing Rock Water Protectors Hindered By Reality

Cannon Ball, N.D. - October 16 – North Dakota Stockmen’s Association (NDSA) suggested that livestock near Standing Rock Water Protectors are going missing in an article posted by Morton County Sheriff’s Office. The article on Inforum.com asserts that 30 cows are missing, and four cows, three bison and a saddle horse were killed.

NDSA Chief Brand Inspector Stan Misek asserted, "They're missing from right beside the camps, right there. We don't know. We don't know for sure. We're just putting it out there and hopefully somebody will come forward."
However, the reality on the ground for the Standing Rock Water Protectors makes an assertion of cattle rustling of this scale preposterous. The camps are under surveillance by air and car nearly 24 hours a day. On an average day, two helicopters, a drone, and an airplane monitor the camps throughout the day. Stingray electronic surveillance devices have been detected in the area. Police are stationed along the road. Federal law enforcement agencies have a nearby outpost station on the same road as the camps. Police regularly patrol the roads around the camp.

Ranchers Create Armed Defense Group Against Anti-Bakken Dakota Access Pipeline Water Defenders

Farmers and ranchers near St. Anthony, N.D. admitted on videos to arming themselves in response to their fear of Native American led camp opposing the Bakken Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL).

An unnamed rancher explained in an interview with Scott Hennen on the radio show “What’s On Your Mind” that he was rattled when police cars escorted his children home on the school bus after the Standing Rock Water Protector camp was formed.

Standing Rock vs Crawford - Coverage Matters

Two journalists present at Water Protector action

I was at the Camp Casey protest outside the Crawford Ranch in 2005. Protestors joined Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a fallen soldier in the Iraq War, as she demanded a face to face meeting with the president. When denied, she made camp right outside President Bush’s Crawford, Texas vacation ranch. For most protestors it was an exercise in expressing discontent with the decision to go to war with Iraq to find weapons of mass destruction.

To get to the rural Camp Casey, we had to drive for hours in the hot Texas sun. When we got close, we were made to squint as light ricocheted off the throngs of clean white media trucks; each with different colorful logos and satellite dishes popping out like lightning rods for the emotion of the country.

Videos Cast Doubt on Police Justification for Brandishing Weapons at Anti-Pipeline Protestors in North Dakota

Two newly reviewed videos casts doubt on on police justification for brandishing weapons at anti-Dakota Access Pipeline protestors at a prayer event resulting in 21 arrests.

Anti-DAPL protestors called Water Protectors were holding a prayer event on September 28 at the end of dead end county road near Mandan, North Dakota. Police responded to the event with with two armored police cars, an LRAD, automatic weapons, shot guns, and dozens of officers from several agencies.

During the interaction, police officers pointed guns at the Water Protectors. In a press release, the Sheriff’s Office of Morton County explained the reason for the officer pointing his gun as a horse charged the officer and was an "imminent threat" to the police.

The first video shows the Water Protectors yell “GUN” because the officers have pointed their weapons and put their hands up. Some of the crowd screams, others run away. As a group of men and women move forward through the crowd with their hands up and out and stand in front of the children and the elderly.

Only after the police put their gun up, the crowd runs away, and the protectors on foot move forward do the horses enter the picture.

Dead End Surveillance - Stingrays and Civil Rights

The terminus of a lonely dead end county road in North Dakota’s contested territory laid beneath one of the most terrifying civil rights moments in modern American history; an echo of historical injustices come around the canyon of time to ring again.

Water Protectors, a group of Native Americans and their allies lead by the Standing Rock Sioux, prayed for the end of the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) at one of its construction sites in rural North Dakota on September 28, 2016. Elders, children, horse riders, and adults gathered in prayer. Some Water Protectors were live streaming the prayer on Facebook, until the signal suddenly stopped.

They feared the consequences of their prayer event was just coming around the corner.

In recent weeks, the police and oil company security have been escalating hostilities. At one prayer meeting a tribal grave site was dug up, resulting in an attempt by protestors to block the bulldozers. In response, the oil company’s security unleashed attack dogs and used pepper spray. Police said they were nowhere nearby during the prayer vigil which resulted in 30 people being pepper-sprayed, and about half a dozen people being bitten by dogs – including a child and a pregnant woman. The journalist who broke the story, Amy Goodman, has been hit with an arrest warrant for criminal trespass.

Police are dispatching ever larger contingents of officers to each action. It seems every police agency in North Dakota is taking its turn sending officers.

The Water Protectors on the dead end road were greeted by dozens of police officers who seemed to spring from the grass like a swarm of locusts, with automatic weapons, shotguns, and armored vehicles. Police helicopters and airplanes occupied the airspace overhead. Officers walked down through the hills, arriving on foot from over crests overlooking the Water Protector’s prayer location. Police SUVs rushed in across fields around the Water Protectors.

Anti-Dakota Access Pipeline Protestors Greet Heavily Armed Police with Handshake

CANNON BALL, N.D. - September 28 – Police confronted anti-Dakota Access Pipeline protestors with an armored vehicle, automatic weapons, and riot gear on Tuesday. Protestors created a receiving line and greeted each police officer with a handshake.

Approximately 300 protestors including children, the elderly, and about a dozen horse riders, gathered on a county road and adjoining ditch near a construction site for the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) in the rural hills of North Dakota.

Protestors sang songs, listened to elders’ stories, and took pictures of the pipeline.

Police Fail To Act After Vehicle of a Native American Anti-Dakota Access Pipeline Protestor is Struck in Hit and Run in Front of Law Enforcement

CANNON BALL, North Dakota – September 28 - A protestor’s vehicle from anti-Dakota Access Pipeline Sacred Stone Camp was struck in a hit and run by a passing hay truck in sight of police Tuesday. Police did not take action to apprehend the truck driver.

The protestor vehicle, an RV, was on the corner waiting to make a turn during a caravan to a protest site in a rural area near Cannon Ball, North Dakota. The police in two police SUVs barricaded off the left turn, leaving only a right turn for the RV at the T shaped intersection.

The hay truck was carrying large round hay bales, stacked up and sticking out on both the left and right sides. The truck was traveling perpendicular to the protest vehicle before making the left hand turn in front of the RV, swinging wildly and seeming to be on the verge of losing control.

Half the Black Men in Milwaukee Have a Suspended License

This picture reads, "With so little transit, a car is often a necessity for a suburban job. So, therefore, is a license. In Wisconsin, any unpaid driving fine or fee can result in a two-year suspension - more than twice as long as the suspension for a drunk-driving conviction.

Tens of thousands of black Milwaukee residents are being denied the opportunity to make a legal living because they're short $100 or less. An astonishing one in two black men in Milwaukee County, which includes the city and its inner suburbs, has a suspended license today."

Just thought you might like to understand the context of the racial strife in Milwaukee.

Walmart Costs American Taxpayers $62 Billion Dollars Per Year

If Walmart Paid Its Employees a Living Wage, How Much Would Prices Go Up?

The American taxpayers subsidize the share holders of Walmart $6.2 billion dollars per year so we do not have to force Walmart to pay their employees living wages.

According to a report by Americans for Tax Fairness, Walmart's employees take billions of dollars in assistance and tax credits for just eight government programs. The eight programs studied were SNAP (food stamps), child care, Section 8, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits, National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, and Energy Assistance Program.

From the report:

"Among the findings is that Walmart receives an estimated $6.2 billion annually in mostly federal taxpayer subsidies. The reason: Walmart pays its employees so little that many of them rely on food stamps, Medicaid and six other taxpayer-funded programs."

Planned increases in Walmart employee pay to $9 and $10 does little to alleviate the taxpayer burden.

"Many Walmart workers being paid $9/hour would qualify for public assistance. At $9/hour and 34 hours a week (Walmart’s definition of “full-time” work), an employee would take home just $15,912/year. This single worker would qualify for three out of five public programs for which they would be eligible. A worker with one or more children would qualify for all eight of the programs studied."

"Many Walmart workers being paid $10/hour would also qualify for public programs. A worker paid $10/hour and working 'full-time' at 34 hours a week would take home just $17,680. With two or more members in their household, this worker would qualify for all eight programs."

Raising the wages of Walmart employees would have no to little impact on prices. The Economic Policy Institute in 2006 issued a report on the connection between Walmart prices and wages.

The report found:

"While still maintaining a profit margin almost 50% greater than Costco, a key competitor, Wal-Mart could have raised the wages and benefits of each of its non-supervisory employees in 2005 by more than $2,000 without raising prices a penny."

Oh, and where do these employees spend their SNAP dollars? You guessed it - Walmart. Walmart raises its profits by not paying its employees a living wage and by taking money from the government in the form of assistance for the food of those employees.

As our country recovers from the worst recession in our history and budgets for vital services are being slashed left and right, we are sacrificing the entire country's welfare so we can subsidize the wealth of the wealthiest families in the country and the shareholders in one of the biggest companies in the world.

Mexico: New Archeological Finds Expand Understanding of Mayan Architecture and Challenging Idea of Savages

Racist attitudes still contaminate conversations about First Nations peoples in the Western Hemisphere before the time of the extermination. Massive cities with complex social structures sprawled around archeological marvels. Contrary to popular belief, they were not dirt eating savages.

Archeologists expanded our understanding of the sophistication of the America's First Nation people this week. In Mexico found an underground water tunnel, about two feet in length, beneath a tomb.

"Archaeologists at the Mayan ruin site of Palenque said Monday they have discovered an underground water tunnel built under the Temple of Inscriptions, which houses the tomb of an ancient ruler named Pakal." (From AP reporter Mark Stevenson)

Archeologists on the project believe it may be a way for the spirit of Pakal to escape and enter the spirit world.

Black Families Will Catch Up with White Families' Current Wealth in Just 228 Years

Black families will need 228 years at their current wealth accusation rates to build the wealth of white families today and the wealth gap is increasing according to a report by the Institute for Policy Studies.

The report, "The Ever Growing Gap - Without Change African-American and Latino Families Won't Match White Wealth For Centuries" speaks to the past, future, and present of the wealth gap for black people. From the report:

  • "Over the past 30  years the average wealth of white families has grown by 84%—1.2 times the rate of growth for the Latino population and three times the rate of growth for the black population. If that continues, the next three decades would see the average wealth of white households increase by over $18,000 per year, while Latino and Black households would see their respective wealth increase by only $2,250 and $750 per year."

  •  "By 2043—the year in which it is projected that people of color will make up a majority of the U.S. population— the wealth divide between white families and Latino and black families will have doubled, on average, from about $500,000 in 2013 to over $1 million."

  •   "Today, the wealthiest 100 members of the Forbes list alone own about as much wealth as the entire African American population combined, while the wealthiest 186 members of the Forbes 400 own as much wealth as the entire Latino population combined."

  • "If average black family wealth continues to grow at the same pace it has over the past three decades, it would take black families 228 years to amass the same amount of wealth white families have today. That’s just 17 years shorter than the 245-year span of slavery in this country. For the average Latino family, it would take 84 years to amass the same amount of wealth White families have today—that’s the year 2097."
Come on America, let's start letting facts get in the way.

Women Get Paid Less Because They Are Less Valuable - Duh. Don't Let Facts Get in Your Way.

There is no equal pay problem, duh. Women just work less and are inferior in every way so they get paid less. They delay having careers for babies. If a woman made a company more money, had better results, worked just as hard, had equal experience, she would get paid the same. Everyone knows that.

Except they don't.

For those of you who don't know - women's soccer in the US makes more money, they win more, they are more recognizable in the world and the US than the men's team. Yet the women make about 25 cents for every dollar a male player makes and they make nothing if they lose - unlike the male team.

They even get paid less for food and expenses while they are traveling for work.

They sued for equal pay and the suit is ongoing.

Even though they make more and are superior to the men's team in every way they do not get equal pay. The best our legislators have is a non-binding resolution. They have to be vastly superior to men to get equal pay?

We hear over and over again that female athletes get paid less because their sports make less. That is not true here. So why should these women settle for pay equal to the players in a less valuable league?

Maybe because the reason people think women should be paid less has nothing to do with their actual value and everything to do with their vagina.

Tell me again how the wage gap isn't real.

Letting Reality Get in the Way: Hillary and ISIS

I keep seeing hysterical posts and headlines about Hillary Clinton and her sinister connection to ISIS. They contend she is somehow indirectly funding or in bed with people funding ISIS.

Let's let reality get in the way:

  • Hillary was an attorney on the board of Lafarge until 1992.
  • 19 years after Hillary left, Lafarge paid taxes to ISIS.
  •  2 years after that Lafarge donated money to the Clinton Foundation.

Let's say you buy my car and you buy drugs from Hank. Are Hank and I financially connected? Do I become responsible for Hank's behavior because you bought my car?

I just got told that I am being manipulated by caring about abortion and protecting abortion rights is not a reason to vote for anyone. Also, it is demeaning to men to say they are less affected by access to abortion.

Good thing that man explained why silly old me had been thinking about abortion all wrong. Here I was thinking for myself.

This Just In: Trump Voters are Voting for the Liar

People - when will you get it through your head? Trump voters do not care if he lies, literally. They do not care if he built a memorial, or paid his bills, or his policy on Russia.

They do not care about policies at all.

Can we address what they actually do care about so we might have a shot at beating him?
They care about women and non-white people getting the white guy's share. That is it. 100%.

Nothing more. Zero, zilch, nada.

Hero Saves Woman and Dog in Traped in Louisiana Floods

Make sure to watch this with sound on.

When faced with a life or death situation David Phung, and the men sharing the boat, did not wait for someone else to help.

He jumped in, saved her life with an assist from his boat-mates. Feeling under-accomplished, seeing the distress of the woman he just saved, and feeling his human rescue was not bad ass enough - dove back into the now fully submerged car and saved her little dog too.

Large objects sinking in water create suction around them. Phung's rescue was dangerous, even in shallow water.

This band of rescue marauders was not alone. Thousands of rescues were performed by caring citizens who learned from Katrina that their community members' best hope of rescue was from their neighbors.

This is how to behave; be a hero on a wet day.

David Phung, please have babies - we need more people like you in the world.

Black Children Are Not Safe From Cops Asleep in Bed

This is Aiyana Stanley-Jones.

 Sorry, this was Aiyana Stanley-Jones.

She was asleep in her bed when officers from Detroit SWAT entered her home with a warrant for the arrest of someone who did not live here. The police entered the wrong home. The cops did not come alone, they came with a film crew for a reality tv show.

For the crime of being asleep on the couch next to her grandmother, she was shot in the head.  In seconds, of the cops entering her life, she was dead.

Her family was shattered.

The cop was charged and faced trial repeatedly but not convicted of a crime for her death. I guess the jury thought even a sleeping black child is scary enough to warrant death.

There is no happy ending here.

Not Marked as Classified - The Truth About Hillary Releasing Classified Documents

In an exchange between FBI Director James Comey and Rep. Matt Cartwright, Director Comey explains how documents are marked as classified and how Hillary could reasonably have not known three emails in debate were classified.

"CARTWRIGHT: According to the manual, if you’re going to classify something, there has to be a header on the document? Right?

COMEY: Correct.

CARTWRIGHT: Was there a header on the three documents that we’ve discussed today that had the little c in the text someplace?

COMEY: No. There were three e-mails, the c was in the body, in the text, but there was no header on the email or in the text.

CARTWRIGHT: So if Secretary Clinton really were an expert about what’s classified and what’s not classified and we’re following the manual, the absence of a header would tell her immediately that those three documents were not classified. Am I correct in that?

COMEY: That would be a reasonable inference."

Now can we get back to talking about Hillary's policies and qualifications.

Simone Manuel Mentions Police Brutality and the Internet Responded with Racism

After her historic win, Simone Manuel decided to exercise her voice about more than just sports, "It means a lot, especially with what is going on in the world today, some of the issues of police brutality. This win hopefully brings hope and change to some of the issues that are going on. My color just comes with the territory.”

Upon hearing about her feelings, white male American trolls responded with thoughtful, metered responses considering the difference in experiences.

Not.

They straight to the racism.

Here are a few gems from the comments section of just this one Washington Times article:

Dan Johnson: "Keep her off the team. BLM has brain washed her. If she wants to be just an American, then she needs to not bad mouth Americans, and the police. Shame on her."

I love that one because it says that being American requires she not address police brutality and problems against black people. Effectively, being American is defined by accepting black inferiority and violence by law enforcement to continue it.

Pf Wag: "My respect for her just plunged. If the rest of the Black community would apply themselves like she has done maybe they wouldn't commit so damn much crime. Regardless, there is no police "brutality" that is out of proportion to the rate Blacks commit crimes. In fact a recent study says it actually less."

milburnschmidt: "Not a word about black violence to blacks, Hundreds shot every week end in chicago blame the police."

Leveraging the Hate of Atheists for Primary Advantage

Atheist hate runs deep in this country, and the DNC wanted to exploit the hate of atheists and Jewish people to put Sanders in his place.

"It might may no difference, but for KY and WVA can we get someone to ask his belief. Does he believe in a God. He had skated on saying he has a Jewish heritage. I think I read he is an atheist. This could make several points difference with my peeps. My Southern Baptist peeps would draw a big difference between a Jew and an atheist."

To which CEO Amy Dacey replied,

"AMEN."

What the actual fuck DNC? WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK!

Hillary and the Broodmare Child Choice

Hillary picked Tim Kaine as her running mate; a man who thinks it is acceptable for the government to force young people under 18 to get permission from their parents to have an abortion or go to a judge and ask their permission. What the actual fuck Hillary?

Abortion is a right, even for minors. Why should any person, judge or parent, have any right to tell a woman or girl when she has to have a baby?

Most minors do talk to their parents about needing abortion, the ones who don't have reasons like abuse or danger of being kicked out to contend with. Foster kids risk a cavalcade of consequences for the rest of their time in care including losing their home, and experiencing the humiliation of hundreds of people knowing about her choice.

WIn a Bronze, Your Husband Will Get the Nod

Win a bronze metal, you will be known by your husband's accomplishments.

Tell me sexism isn't real again - please.

Katie Ledecky Sets New Standard For Winning, Sets World Record, WIns Gold, Cannot Get a Headline Above Phelps' Silver

Katie Ledecky didn't just win the 800 Meter Freestyle. She won by nearly 11.5 seconds, an unheard of margin in elite swimming. She set a new world record. Her accomplishments were just good enough to play second fiddle to Michael Phelps' tie for silver.

Most swimming races are decided by 1/10ths a second.

Her margin of winning was at best a dozen times better than most matches, and thousands of times better than most. She obliterated any of Phelps winning margins, as far as I know he never won Olympic metal by that much.

To understand how badly she smoked the competition, watch the short video below.

She didn't just win a metal, or set a world record, she set a new standard for winning.

Her win was like winning a soccer game in professional soccer by 90 points or a baseball game by 900 points.

If Phelps had done that, we would hear about it all over the news, there would be signs in the streets and a fucking parade.

Ledecky is a woman, so no matter how great her accomplishments, no matter how gold - she will always be second to the silver metal male.

Fox News: Women Athletes are to be Attractive

In international competition level sexism, repression Olympians at Fox News demand women participating in the Olympics maintain a standard of beauty, not athleticism.

Then Fox contributor Bo Dietl displayed a level of aesthetic sensitivity bordering on hysteria when they asked,"Why should I have to look at some chick's zits?"

No one had the courage to tell Dietl to go do cognitive behavioral therapy to deal with his fear of skin imperfections.

Simone Manuel - Yet Another Woman Athlete Undeserving of Her Own Headline

San Jose Mercury News Tweet: Michael Phelps shares historic night with African-American

Simone Manuel was the first gold metal won by an African American in swimming. African Americans were systematically excluded from swimming pools for decades. The victory was an important one for African Americans and for women.

Instead of heralding in Manuel and her milestone in a sport hostile to African Americans, her victory was swept aside in a gulling act of racism and sexism by the San Jose Mercury News.

After her historic win the San Jose Mercury News sent out a tweet and headlined an article, "
Michael Phelps shares historic night with African-American"

Just like that, Manuel was stripped of her name, accomplishment and identified only by her race. The practice of scrubbing a woman's accomplishment and identifying her by a nearby man is common sexist practice which news sources have tripped over numerous times during the Olympics.

Corey Cogdell won a bronze metal in Woman's Trap - a shooting competition, yet the Chicago Tribune decided to not include her name in a tweet and headline about her win, instead identifying her by her marital connection to Chicago Bear.

After the blatant sexism of the tweet and headline scrubbing Cogdell from recognition of her own accomplishments, a constant pervasive excuse was offered; "The newspaper just wanted a local connection."

Simone Manuel went to college at Stanford University, 23.5 miles from the San Jose Mercury news. She has a local connection to the readers of this newspaper.  Phelps was raised and trained in the Baltimore area. He went to college in Michigan. She is not connected to Phelps in any way other than the same sport.

She is stripped of her name, Phelps was not. She was described as her race, Phelps was not.

The sexist coverage of women athletes is not about local connections. The racism and sexism are just good old American non-sense.

Department of Justice Releases Scathing Report of Police Misconduct and Racism in Baltimore Police Department

Head of the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice Vanita Gupta describes the problems and systematic issues outlined in a DOJ  report on policing conditions in Baltimore.

The Department of Justice released a report of gross misconduct on the part of Baltimore Police including racial targeting in all aspects of policing and failing to adequately investigate rape.

Quoting from the report:
"BPD engages in a pattern or practice of:
(1) making unconstitutional stops, searches, and arrests;
(2) using enforcement strategies that produce severe and unjustified disparities in the rates of
stops, searches and arrests of African Americans;
(3) using excessive force; and
(4) retaliating against people engaging in constitutionally-
protected expression."

Basically, the cops suck at cop-ing and the DOJ ain't afraid to say so.

The report also states:

  •  BPD’s legacy of zero tolerance enforcement continues to drive its policing in certain Baltimore neighborhoods and leads to unconstitutional stops, searches, and arrests. Many BPD supervisors instruct officers to make frequent stops and arrests—even for minor offenses and with minimal or no suspicion—without sufficient consideration of whether this enforcement strategy promotes public safety and community trust or conforms to constitutional standards.”

  • BPD’s pedestrian stops are concentrated on a small portion of Baltimore residents. BPD made roughly 44 percent of its stops in two small, predominantly African-American districts that contain only 11 percent of the City’s population. Consequently, hundreds of individuals—nearly all of them African American—were stopped on at least 10 separate occasions from 2010– 2015. Indeed, seven African-American men were stopped more than 30 times during this period.”

Even more interesting is the fact that the police grossly under report the number of their stops. In a city of 620,000, the DOJ estimates there are hundreds of thousands of stops.

More from the report:
  • Our review of incident reports and interviews with officers and community members found that officers regularly approach individuals standing or walking on City sidewalks to detain and question them and check for outstanding warrants, despite lacking reasonable suspicion to do so. Only 3.7 percent of pedestrian stops resulted in officers issuing a citation or making an arrest.”

  • We likewise found many instances in which officers strip search individuals without legal justification. In some cases, officers performed degrading strip searches in public, prior to making an arrest, and without grounds to believe that the searched individuals were concealing contraband on their bodies.”

  • Arrests without probable cause: from 2010–2015, supervisors at Baltimore’s Central Booking and local prosecutors rejected over 11,000 charges made by BPD officers because they lacked probable cause or otherwise did not merit prosecution. Our review of incident reports describing warrantless arrests likewise found many examples of officers making unjustified arrests.”
  • While the Constitution requires individuals to receive pre-arrest notice of the specific conduct prohibited as loitering or trespassing, BPD officers approach individuals standing lawfully on sidewalks in front of public housing complexes or private businesses and arrest them unless the individuals are able to “justify” their presence to the officers’ satisfaction.”

  • BPD uses overly aggressive tactics that unnecessarily escalate encounters, increase tensions, and lead to unnecessary force, and fails to de-escalate encounters when it would be reasonable to do so.”

  • BPD uses excessive force against individuals with mental health disabilities or in crisis. Due to a lack of training and improper tactics, BPD officers end up in unnecessarily violent confrontations with these vulnerable individuals.”

  • BPD uses unreasonable force against people who present little or no threat to officers or others. Specifically, BPD uses excessive force against (1) individuals who are already restrained and under officers’ control and (2) individuals who are fleeing from officers and are not suspected of serious criminal offenses.”

  • Our concerns about BPD’s use of excessive force are compounded by BPD’s ineffective oversight of its use of force. Of the 2,818 force incidents that BPD recorded in the nearly six-year period we reviewed, BPD investigated only ten incidents based on concerns identified through its internal review. Of these ten cases, BPD found only one use of force to be excessive.”

  • BPD violates the First Amendment by retaliating against individuals engaged in constitutionally protected activities. Officers frequently detain and arrest members of the public for engaging in speech the officers perceive to be critical or disrespectful. And BPD officers use force against members of the public who are engaging in protected speech.”

Racism is real - it affects the lives of black people every single day. Get your shit together Americans. Let facts get in your way.

The DOJ report went on to describe how the Baltimore Police Department fails rape victims. Read some highlights in my article here.
