Taking The Bible At Its Word: Starvation, Gay People and Bratty Kids

I look at these two pictures and I only see one - the starving children. It is an agonizing stab at an honest conscience to equate the two. Alas, there are people who disagree. Some find these two images equally shocking or find the depiction of a gay kiss so revolting, so shameful that the men almost kissing is the more horrific of the two pictures.

This is an actual reply to the picture by a devout Christian to a friend who posted the above picture on their Facebook page. “Both are shocking sweetie ...but one is a sinful choice the other is the result of many things gone wrong.”

The disdain for gay people is often justified using the Bible. Let’s see what the messiah Jesus said about both gay people and helping the poor. While we are at it, let’s look at homosexuality in the Old Testament as it compares to other crimes.

What Jesus said about the poor:

"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." Matthew 25:40

What Jesus said about gay people:

".................................................................. "

Jesus cared about the poor. Gayness, well, that did not merit a conversation. On this I think we should follow Jesus's lead.

What the Old Testament said about gay people:

"If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." Leviticus 20:13

What the Old Testament said about mouthy children:

"He that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death." Exodus 21:17

The Old Testament wants one to treat gayness with the same seriousness as one would treat a mouthy child.

Let's put a picture of bratty kid with a picture of a starving child. Would the people who find homosexuality as shocking as a starving child be equally shocked by a little kid having a temper tantrum as they are as a starving child?

I suspect not.

  2. As for which is more shocking to me... both are equally as shocking, but for different reasons. Such a picture is propaganda for those who are pushing homosexuality as being acceptable sexual behavior, and shouldn't be compared to starvation since they're two completely different subjects... sexual behavior and starvation.

Homosexuality is also condemned in the New Testament (Romans 1:26,27,32); 1 Cor. 6:9-11), and Jesus confirmed what the Old Testament says, that marriage is between 1 male and 1 female (Matthew 19:4-6).

The Old Testament doesn't mean, for a LITTLE child to be stoned, but to stone an ADULT child disrespecting and dishonoring his parents. The Old Testament gives an example of this, by talking about a man who was drunk. The last time I checked, children don't get drunk.

Twisting what the Bible says doesn't make the Bible wrong. It only shows, you didn't studying the Bible, or you're purposely deceiving in order to push homosexuality.

  3. Darwin. This picture is to show one behavior - condemnation.

As to your bible sections, they do not refute what I have said. I'm a bit surprised that someone who would wag their finger at me to do my research would so brazenly provide text that does not address the point or that dishonestly presents their holy book.

I said Jesus said nothing about gay people.
    Not Jesus:(Romans 1:26,27,32); 1 Cor. 6:9-11),

"Jesus confirmed what the Old Testament says, that marriage is between 1 male and 1 female (Matthew 19:4-6)"

    You need to read 19:2-8.

"Large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.

3 Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?”

4 “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’[a] 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’[b]? 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

7 “Why then,” they asked, “did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?”

8 Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning.

9 I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery."

10 The disciples said to him, “If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry.”

Jesus is not discussing gay marriage, or gayness. He is discussing the specifics of divorce and if you can't be with a woman faithfully not to marry one. No where does it say that it can only be between a man and a woman. No where does it say it can't be gay marriage.

However - even if it did. Your religion has no business in public policy. If you don't want to get gay married - don't.

Now we get to the really morally repugnant part of your comment. The defense of murder.

"The Old Testament doesn't mean, for a LITTLE child to be stoned, but to stone an ADULT child disrespecting and dishonoring his parents. The Old Testament gives an example of this, by talking about a man who was drunk. The last time I checked, children don't get drunk."

Your "context" which is incorrect by the way, makes your god no less barbaric and you no less barbaric for believing it. You should be ashamed that you defend a practice of parents stoning their adult children to death. It's shameful.

    2. When Jesus says, marriage is between 1 male and 1 female, that is Jesus saying something about gay marriage... which is not marriage. Homosexuality is "shameful" and "against nature" according to God's Word (Romans 1:26, 27), and anyone who does or approves of such a lifestyle is worthy of death, if they don't repent (Romans 1:32).

Jesus is God (John 1:1-3,14; Isaiah 9:6, etc.), and the entire Bible is His Word (2 Peter 1:20,21). It doesn't matter if He doesn't personally say the words, or use the Apostle Paul, or apostles, to say them for Him. Jesus is called the Word of God (John 1:1), and He personally appointed His disciples and apostles to take His Words to the entire world (Matt.24:14).

You should be ashamed of defending rebellious drunks that degrade and dishonor their parents. Such a law, which was a Hebrew law, not a Christian law, was probably a very good deterrent from bad behavior... something our society lacks. Our society is weakened today, because of homosexuality and the lack of honoring parents, which weakens the family unit as described in the Holy Bible, which begins with 1 male and 1 female (Gen.2:21-25). Steve was not made from Adam's rib... it was Eve. Eve was made from Adam's rib... not Madam's rib.

Adults know right from wrong, innocent children do not... so there's a big difference when it comes to the ages of those children that would be punished for dishonoring parents in Hebrew law. Such a law doesn't make my God barbaric... it makes Him Holy, and He demands the honoring of parents, which strengthens the family unit. Fortunately for homosexuals and the those who can care less about traditional or the Biblical family unit, we are living in the age of grace, not the law (Romans 6:14).

That doesn't mean that God has weakened His stance against the homosexual lifestyle, which is called "an abomination" (Lev.18:22;20:13), or which was one of the main reasons why God destroyed Sodom, as the men of that city tried to "know" the male guests of Lot's "carnally" (Genesis19:4,5).

I have no context... it's what the Bible says. You can find nowhere in the Bible, where it says, LITTLE children were stoned to death for dishonoring their father and mother. The Bible's example of an adult child being stoned, for being rebellious/dishonoring to his parents, is in Deuteronomy 21:18:23.

  4. If it would make you feel better Darwin. You can imagine a mouthy adult person instead of the child in the last comparison. Does that make your position better?

    1. Where does the Bible say,"mouthy" adult child in any example for getting stoned, according to Hebrew law? The only example I have found, is a rebellious son whom is a drunkard, whom refused to listen to his parents (Deuteronomy 21:18-23).

And why wouldn't that make my position a whole lot better, when an adult knows right from wrong and doesn't do it, or a little child who isn't old enough to know better?
