Taking The Bible At Its Word: Starvation, Gay People and Bratty Kids

I look at these two pictures and I only see one - the starving children. It is an agonizing stab at an honest conscience to equate the two. Alas, there are people who disagree. Some find these two images equally shocking or find the depiction of a gay kiss so revolting, so shameful that the men almost kissing is the more horrific of the two pictures.

This is an actual reply to the picture by a devout Christian to a friend who posted the above picture on their Facebook page. “Both are shocking sweetie ...but one is a sinful choice the other is the result of many things gone wrong.”

The disdain for gay people is often justified using the Bible. Let’s see what the messiah Jesus said about both gay people and helping the poor. While we are at it, let’s look at homosexuality in the Old Testament as it compares to other crimes.

What Jesus said about the poor:

"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." Matthew 25:40

What Jesus said about gay people:

".................................................................. "

Jesus cared about the poor. Gayness, well, that did not merit a conversation. On this I think we should follow Jesus's lead.

What the Old Testament said about gay people:

"If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." Leviticus 20:13

What the Old Testament said about mouthy children:

"He that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death." Exodus 21:17

The Old Testament wants one to treat gayness with the same seriousness as one would treat a mouthy child.

Let's put a picture of bratty kid with a picture of a starving child. Would the people who find homosexuality as shocking as a starving child be equally shocked by a little kid having a temper tantrum as they are as a starving child?

I suspect not.
